Week 1 and 2 , Sunday to Thursday Morning Mysore Style Depending on the size of the group, and the experience level, there will be either one or two groups. Mark and Deepika work great as a team, to create a special, traditional, still and quiet energy in the Mysore room. For those newer students it is thoroughly recommended to be confident enough to practice at least until Navasana unassisted. The more preparation you have coming into the retreat, the greater your learning capacity, and depth your retreat experience will be. For the more advanced students Mark is one of the few practitioners worldwide practicing the 4th Series and Deepika is well into the 3rd series, and each have more than 15 years teaching experience, and are ready to help guide you in developing your practice further.

Afternoon Workshops - Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Afternoons Every afternoon workshop will be a mixture of theory and discussion of how to live your yoga on and off the mat, and please note there will also be a reasonable amount of practical physical work. There will be chanting, sitting meditation practice, and question and answer time. We will explore the Ashtanga Method from a variety of perspectives, and approach movement and posture from a wholistic point of view; giving you tools and exercises for building core strength, as well as "everyday essentials" for increasing flexibility and mobility, and an in depth exploration of the breath and bandhas - all of which are paramount to learning the Ashtanga Series.
Examples of the themes that will be covered are:
Gatekeepers Techniques and tools for unlocking gatekeeper postures (those postures that keep the gate closed to progressing) like the Marichyasanas, Lotus, and Bhujapidasana/Kurmasanas and more.
Transitions - Learn the 'correct' transitions out of Utkatasana and Virabhadrasana, as well as the techniques for jump backs and jump throughs.
Backbending - Basics and Beyond Learn how to backbend safely. Develop more flexibility and mobility through the hip flexors and shoulders, strengthen your core and reach your full back bending potential. Discover the 'hidden' backbends throughout the Primary Series. Learn how to drop back and come back up.
Inversions, Arm balances and More - We will build on the foundation already established in the Sun Salutations and the jump back transitions, and begin working with inversions such as headstand, Bakasana and others arm balances - many of them within the Primary Series.
Moving Actively to Develop Strength, Mobility and Stability - Learn how to move safely, to develop more control and reduce the chance of injury.
Understanding The Primary pattern of the Primary Series - Learn the main movement pattern of this series of flexion twists and see how this helps to unlock the code to the other Series.
